"Those first couple of
laps, I didn't know
if
I was going to make it through there. It was kind of crazy, but
I made it." Minich stated. "It was fun to race with Lou
(Stremme), I have not had too many chances to race with him. I
have raced with Tony (Dager) quite a bit of course, and they are fun
to race with. It was a fun race."
The first lap incident
occurred when cars went into the first turn three wide, it held
through the first and second turns, but did not going into three with
several cars spinning, going over the edge in the backstretch, and
bouncing off one another. Front row starters Adam Hudson and Keith
Sterkowitz both went to the pits for repairs, as did several other
cars.
With the restart Asztalos
was on inside front row and he took off to a commanding lead as the
drivers settled into long green flag run of 39 laps. During that run
the cars of Minich, Dager, Stremme, and Hutson made their way through
the field and were catching the leader when a caution on the 44th
lap bunched up the field.
With his sizable lead gone,
and the fast cars working both the high and low side trying to get
past Asztalos saw Minich move into first a few laps later. The others
slipped by also and now raced for each position, with several changes
in their positions happening as Dager looked high and low for a way
around Minich.
"I tried everyway to get
around, but it just did not happen." An exhausted Dager said.
"I
lost my power steering on the 30th lap, and my arms feel
like they are going to fall off now."
Minich took the Howe Racing
Award as well as the Pro Shocks Award. Charlie Hanna moved from the 21st
starting spot to finish 13th after moving up to as high as
6th, but falling back when he had a flat on the last few
laps, his advancing earned him the Racing Electronics Hard Charger
Award. Asztalos received the Turn One High Performance Steering System
Award for leading the most laps.
