CRA Super Series to Celebrate July 4th at Angola Motor Speedway

Salem, IN (July 1, 2009) – The CRA Super Series will keep up what has become an annual tradition of racing at Angola Motor Speedway on July 4th this Saturday in the EMF Corp 125. The CRA Super Series has been a part of that big Holiday racing event at Angola Motor Speedway for several seasons. This weekend will be the biggest weekend of racing this year at the beautiful 3/8-mile facility owned by Angola businessman Dick Poe. Fellow local businessman Craig Everage has leased the facility to promote races for the 2009 season, running a schedule of special events called the Wide Open Tour.

Everidge previously promoted events at Angola during the 2007 season creating a lot of excitement with some great special events along with some neat promotions each week to get the fans out to enjoy each nights racing action. Everage has been a racer in Outlaw Late Models in the area for several years and is the owner of Everage Auto in Angola. Dick Poe is the owner of CRA Super Series sponsor EMF Corp and is the owner of Dick Poe Motorsports with driver Scott Hantz who won a record third CRA Super Series Championship during the 2008 season. Hantz also became the series all time event winner breaking Brian Ross’s record of 22 wins.

Angola resident Scott Hantz had not won a CRA Super Series race at his home track of Angola Motor Speedway, since July 4, 2003. That streak ended at last seasons CRA Super Series event at Angola in front of a full grandstand of fans. Several drivers challenged Hantz through out the race, but none were able to hold on to second long as that position changed hands several times during the 125 laps on what was a tricky track to keep up with after the area received several inches of rain the night prior to the event.

Hantz has now won a record four of the 13 series events that have been held at Angola since the 1998 season. Bobby Blount has won two series events, the first two series events held at Angola, while the impressive list of one time winners includes 1997 series Champion Kenny Tweedy, 1998 series Champion Brian Rievley, 2005 series Drivers Champion Jeff Lane, also Canadian Motorsports Hall Of Fame competitor Junior Hanley, Eddie Van Meter, Tim Felver and JR Roahrig.

Hantz will have plenty of competition on Saturday led by current series points leader Johnny VanDoorn who is coming off his second win of the season last Saturday at Salem Speedway. Hantz finished second in that event and is currently second in series points, only seven points behind VanDoorn. Aaron Pierce is currently third in series points followed by Boris Jurkovic in fourth and Terry Fisher Jr. in fifth place.

Other top series competitors expected to compete in Saturday’s event include Rick Turner, former Angola winners Jeff Lane and Kenny Tweedy, also John Heck and Robert Maynor. A strong group of K & N Filters Rookie drivers will also be racing led by current rookie points leader Zach Hulvey, along with fellow rookies Brandon Fagin, Tyler Roahrig, Nick Lay and Damon Ecoff.

The event will have several local drivers including Hantz, Fisher, Hulvey and CRA regular Jason Shively who led the majority of the laps in the $10,010 to win Stan Perry Memorial Outlaw Late Model race at Angola in June. CRA regular Jason Dietsch and part-time series competitor Jack Landis are both very familiar with Angola Motor Speedway. Other local talent expected to compete Saturday includes 2008 CRA Late Model Sportsman Champion Tony Dager in his first ever series start along with Mike Kugler, Brent Jack and Derek Bischak.

Angola Motor Speedway will have their Open Wheel Spectacular #1 on Friday, July 3rd with racing from the HOSS Winged Sprints, Modifieds, Street Stocks and Mini Stocks along with some open practice for the CRA Super Series. There will also be Fireworks from the Mad Bomber on both nights along with a band and free camping.

Pit gates open on Saturday at 1pm, practice will begin at 3pm with qualifying at 5pm. The race program will begin at 7pm and will include the EMF Corp 125 for the CRA Super Series and racing action from the Modifieds, Legends and FWD’s.
